You are well aware that having a chronic illness is very challenging and I’m guessing you’ve had days when you feel like giving up and just doing whatever you want instead of fighting to stay healthy (and let’s be honest- sometimes you need a day like that!). It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance just to feel “normal”, doesn’t it?
I want to share a passage of Scripture from the Bible with you that has been an encouragement to me when I feel as though I’m fighting an uphill battle, and relief and rejuvenation seem out of reach.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
As a Christian, this passage is a sweet reminder to me that even though my body doesn’t function the way I wish it would, my soul is encouraged and refreshed when I seek the Lord’s peace and remember the eternal hope He offers. And although the trials I face on this earth don’t feel like a brief moment in time, I’m reminded of the brevity of life when I quiet my mind and view life from an eternal perspective.
